Autostability for vibration and noise damping explained:
In earlier days, before autostability existed, tiebars were required to take
reaction forces,
see example.
This reaction force comes from the internal pressure of the medium, like the
hydraulic cylinder
, which gets longer under pressure.
Even when no compensator is installed, the reaction force is there, albeit this
force is compensated by stress in the pipe wall. However the moment the
the pipe is cut and something flexible like a compensator is installed,
this reaction force shows itself and the pipe line wants to extent.
Because pumps, chillers etc. are on elastic feet, they are pushed away.
That is why it was required to install tiebars. The tiebars take the reaction forces.
Disadvantage of tiebars:
The flexibele compensator is bridged and a fixed connection is the result.
It is obvious that this fixation prevents good vibration and noise damping.
Hence the
autostable compensator Dilatoflex
®
series K
Designed and fabricated in such a way that the formerly mentioned reaction forces
are compensated. The round, spherical shape of the rubber bellows makes this possible.
Mind you, a
soccer ball
when pressurized does not become a rugby ball.
So tiebars are not needed anymore!
So when connecting pipe to pumps, chillers, dry coolers, heatexchangers, gas meters:
the Dilatoflex
®
series K performs quietly and noise free.
Is ”stable” autostable?
Take care: a ”stable” compensator is not yet an ”autostable” compensator!
Some conventional compensators are ”stable” when at a certain pressure a balance
is reached between the reaction force (outwards) and the spring force (stiffness) of the
compensator itself (inwards). However higher pressures result in longer
length of the compensator before a new balance is found.
This ”stable” compensator leads to dangers:
- for higher pressures the balance is found at length beyond the maximum allowable length
of the compensator
- the balance is reached because of higher stiffness of the compensator, which is bad for
vibration damping
- due to aging the stiffness of the compensator changes, so the balance changes too
- a pressure surge disrupts the balance vigorously and the systems breaks away
- because of the change in length due to varying pressures varying stresses
exist in piping, pumps and connected equipment
The Dilatoflex
®
series K is not ”stable” but
autostable
:
- safe, reliable and optimal vibration and noise damping
